Discovery Camp, Osaka Japan 26 May - 1 June 2024

Be the first to join Discovery Camp, the first Malaysia’s school holiday camp held in Japan. This trip is open for any high school student with the interest to explore Japan’s life value, sustainable city, education system and technology.

The Discovery Camp Objective

Discovery’  exposes Japanese values such as Ikigai, Omoiyari and Kaizen before the tour. During the tour, participants will put value in each hakken (discovery), taiken (hands-on experience), keiken (experience) and iken (opinion) during the tour. This will be used for dream creation, finding their ikigai, draft future planning and start acting as global citizens.

Each participant will also get exposure on student exchange programs and chances to study or work abroad.



  1. School visits and cultural exchanges with Japanese students.
  2. University and vocational college tours; sharing session on the opportunity to study abroad.
  3. Hands-on experience in making Japanese food and crafts.
  4. Special sessions with the Malaysian diaspora in Japan.
  5. Visit Japan's largest and most important scientific research institute. 
  6. Witnessing the impact of major natural disasters and understanding the reconstruction process

  • Departure from Kuala Lumpur international Airport to Kansai International Airport.

  • Arrive at Kansai International Airport

  • Cultural visit to Nara (UNESCO World Heritage City)
    – Nara was Japan’s first permanent capital city in the year 710. Even now, Nara is home to many early emperor palaces and large Shinto shrines. Famous for Nara-machi town and Nara park with free roaming wild deer.
    – We will visit Todaiji temple, one of the largest and most famous temples, and also Nara Park.

  • Sushi Making Experience
    – The group’s first lunch is their hand-making sushi. The participant will learn from professional chefs to create Japan’s most famous cuisine.

  • Kengaku: University Visit
    – Get ‘the feeling’ to enter Japan’s university. Learn how you can continue your education abroad and the opportunity ahead.

  • Transfer to Kyoto

  • Cultural visit to Kyoto (UNESCO World Heritage City);
    With 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites, Kyoto gives you a classic Japan vibe. Full of wooden structures, temples, and beautiful gardens, it is a must-visit location.

  • Visit Kiyomizu Temple
    – We will explore the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Forest area and also Kyomizu Temple. Learn how Kyoto preserves its city concept by blending modern influence into classical concepts

  • Shinkansen (bullet train) experience!
    – Experience a Shinkansen ride between cities. Learn how Shinkansen helped to catalyst Japan’s development.

  • School visit and cultural exchange session
    Half-day visit with cultural exchange activity at one of Japanese High Schools.

  • Learning visit to Maishima Incineration Plant
    Dubbed as the World’s Prettiest Garbage disposal facility, participants will learn about the environment, recycling, and waste management system.

  • Visit Senmon Gakko
    Do you know that you can enter Japan’s Senmon Gakko (Professional Training College)? From elderly care, animator, or hotelier you can get a qualification to work in Japan. Learn more on this trip.

  • Okonomiyaki Making Experience
    It is an Osaka soul-dish. The savory pancake, self-cook on top of teppan will create a fun and ‘waku waku’ experience for each participant.

30 May 2024

  • High Impact Site-Visit: RIKEN SPring-8 Center, Harima
    Visit Japan’s largest scientific research facility. It is once in a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see SPring-8; a large synchrotron radiation facility, and SACLA; a large X-ray free electron laser facility (XFEL). SACLA is one of only five XFEL facilities in the world and the only one in Japan. Learn how these super hi-tech facilities help improve society and people’s lives.

  • Visit Sugihara Paper Village
    Learn about the Japanese Paper (washi) making process which consumes a lot of time and effort. Understand the importance of protecting national craftsmanship. Participants will have the opportunity to create their washi here.

  • Visit to Kobe Earthquake Museum
    Learn about the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake that collapsed almost everything in the Kobe region and how the city was rebuilt with sustainability in mind.

  • Transfer to Osaka

31 May 2024

  • Be an explorer in Osaka.
    Participants will be divided into small groups and given a task to explore Osaka’s main attraction. They will need to visit a cruise ship, museum, gallery, and many more. It’s a fun session to build confidence, challenge navigation skills, and collaborative spirit.

  • Malaysian Diaspora
    With support from the Malaysian diaspora in Japan, we set up a close sharing session. They can have a free topic-friendly talk with each other.

  • Closing Ceremony
    – We will share the outcome of the visit, its impact on participant thinking, and also their future planning.

  • Early departure to the airport. It’s time to say Sayonara.

Our Camp Highlights

How Discovery Camp works?


  1. Participants will meet in a pre-departure program before travelling. This program will familiarise them with the expectations and preparations before the camp begins.
  2. Participants come from different schools for the camp.
  3. They will be provided with journals to record their experiences and opinions.
  4. The program will combine a sense of friendship, adventure, technical visits, and cultural awareness.
  5. Participants will explore Osaka, Nara, Kobe, Kyoto in duration of 6 days and 5 nights.
  6. Post-trip: Students will share their experiences and submit their journals. We will share what the students have gained during the camp with their respective parents or schools.
